TASS - By Ekarterina Vakulenko and Alexander Veigar
In some bold moves, the EP has expressed its desire for the EU to be more independent of the US. The European Parliament looks very optimistic about their ideas.
We, TASS journalists, however, observe that many problems are not getting tackled.
They bring up many ideas, some sound fancy such as tightening grip on the market with regulations, “customer protection”. They also have many plans to develop Europe's digitalization and education, but many would consider them somewhat “outlandish”. Considering the lack of resources, lack of technology versus the US and in many cases, China, Europe cannot suddenly get their funds from nowhere.
Their economies are still recovering from some stagnant, as well as their Ukraine war effort is draining them greatly.
Without resources, their only source is their “trusted ally”, the US. The vicious circle of reliance on the US, ironically, will continue. The EP members have not convinced the people of how they would realistically proceed with their plans while being less reliant on the US.
Europe can only choose their ideas realistically with their independent resources: Improving their currently not-that-good-looking economy, trying to plan longer-term plans for Europe digital single market and digitalization and education, and their funding for Ukrainian weapons to drag the conflict out there.
Pick one.
